Known Khajiit

The Khajiit are a race of feline creatures hailing from the place named Elsweyr.

Physiologically, Khajiit differ greatly from the varied races of man not only in their skeletal structure (possessed of a tail and aft-jointed legs) and dermal makeup (the "fur" that covers their bodies) but in their digestion and metabolism as well.

Origins

The children of our great mother Pissran according to some. The love children of Thanee and Iniabi to others. Our religions are as diverse any of the various races.

However, as we have previously stated... The Khajiit are a race of feline creatures hailing from the place named Elsweyr. That said the land existed a very long time ago. Most Khajjit do not remember their original home land, or know where it actually is for that matter... Khajiit are well-known for their keen intelligence and agility. While these traits give them the stereotype of being rouges and thieves, Khajiit are also fearsome warriors. Although they are seldom gifted with the skill to harness magical forces, this is not to say that Khajiit do not possess the ability but merely that it is either a rare gift or something that must be strenuously trained for to make wielding magic a serious option. Keeping all that in mind, it is not uncommon for Khajiit to have a tribe Oracle to speak with the ancestors and be a general spiritual guide, typically they are diviners and historians rather than combatants.

Culture, Garb, and Signifiers

Khajiit are often characterized as playful, kind, rambunctious, mysterious, and determined. Khajiit like all cats are often instigators of pranks and they enjoy watching the chaos happen in their wake. Like all cats their fur color and pattern as well. Khajiit also have a natural grace that often leaves them good at agility based activities. The Khajiit often end up scattered across the world due to their own nature and joy of traveling, but also due to less pleasant means like being trafficked. Khajiit have a history of being traded as pets and enslaved. As we enter a new era this is increasingly becoming less common however the effect of this is still seen in where the Khajiit are found across the world. Khajiit tend to refer to each other by familial terms even when no blood relation exists because many Khajiit grew up without ever knowing who their family were. As a result of this there aren’t many Khajiit towns and instead Khajiit tend to live on the fringes of society. When Khajiit do form groups they tend to stay on the move. These wandering groups tend to resemble either merchant caravans or a mobile circus. As disproval for enslavement and trafficking has increased there are small Khajiit settlements that have developed over the years.

The Khajiit Pantheon & religious beliefs are also very diverse and large as the race itself. Seemingly still growing as more Khajiit's are found across the realms, we are still recording the religions observed by the race as a whole. One thing known for certain, all Khajiit's find the heavenly bodies as scared in one form or another.

Khajiit garb tends to reflect their nomadic tendencies matching the garb of other nomadic cultures such as Bedouins, Romani or Arabian garb. Khajiit's may be commonly seen wearing a vest and harem pants. the race typically prefers long, flowing garb which often includes scarves or sashes. Khajiit, as with many other monster races, have a love for all things that shine or jingle. As a result beads, jewelry, coin belts or other jingly items is commonly integrated into garb.

Khajiit’s as far as physical identifiers they often have tails and sometimes have claws and/or ears. Some (though not all) Khajiit can also be identified from their cat-like face paint. While the pictures seen here have full face paint, Khajiit will also do simplified versions of paint only have the nose and whiskers. Khajiit’s hold skeleton keys as a very important symbol so most Khajiit will have a ton of keys either on their person, or easily available. They also find the Sun, Moon and Stars as highly important symbols often traced back to the Gods, Iniabi and Thanee.

Finally some Khajiit can be found walking around with some skooma. Skooma varies from region to region so there’s no fixed formulation for it. For each Khajiit skooma means something different. Just know whatever it is, it'll be very potent!.

Khajiit Bonding Ceremonies

In the new age of Monsterdom many new monster races have a ceremony to initiate new members of their race. This can be long and complicated like the Hobs or short and sweet like the Frogs. I, Sir Nea, decided that the Khajiit should have a ceremony as well. However if you don't like this idea please come up with your own and add it to this page or just don't do it. This is not mandatory this is just a way to create hype about the Khajiit and cultivate a sense of belonging.

Yarn Negotiation

The Khajiit running the trial has a ball of yarn. They give this ball of yarn to either another Khajiit or another monster who is easily identifiable, close to either Khajiit, and willing to participate. The new Khajiit must trade/negotiate with the monster with the ball of yarn to get it back and return it to the Khajiit who is running the trial.

Yarn Acquisition

This trial is the counterpart to the Yarn Negotiation Trial and can be run if you don't have a ball of yarn or if you just like this idea better. Instead of the new Khajiit trying to get a ball of yarn from someone else they must procure a ball of yarn from the event site. I used this trial to get my ball of yarn I will be using for all future ceremonies.

Khajiit Alphabet

Khajiit use the following alphabet:

Khajiit Specific Titles

Mane

As of Beltane 2026 the position of Mane has been removed. This was in agreement with the current Mane, Dymphna. The purpose of the mane is being left here for all to read, but as we enter a new age of monsterdom we ask that all Khajiit step up and provide information for anyone curious. In this new age I would like to encourage the Khajiit still active to help to create their own cultural norms in their areas of the world. While the content we come up with should still be check for issues with cultural appropriation we do not all need to be aligned in our lore and goals for the Khajiit. So with the power vested in me by me I name Dymphna the Last Mane of the Khajiit and encourage you all to step up and invest time and energy into an old monster race with a lot of history.

- Sir Nea the Mooncat

The mane is the spiritual leader of the Khajiit. Their job is to be there for anyone who needs help or has questions. Additionally it's their job to help build consensus and get buy in from all current Khajiit before decisions are made and culture is generated. Khajiit make decisions and govern by rough consensus rather then by having any specific overarching leader. To became mane one must first be democratically chosen (often voluntold). Then they are signed off on by the current mane who becomes responsible for training them and helping them transition into the next mane. When the current mane's 2 year period is up, the mane in training, Tuft, rotates into that spot for the next 2 years.
Current Mane: Dymphna
Current Tuft:

Oracle

The Oracle's are the historians, lore keepers and mystics of our race. Keeping us in touch with the Gods, Spirits and our Ancestors. While it's up to the Mane to build out consensus for what we hold dear it's up to the Oracle to weave the tales about why we care for each of our cultural artifacts. They are the one's who explain how the cultural artifact came to be.
