Dagger

Overview

A dagger in Belegarth is a short, stab only weapon. Imagine a spear, but teeny tiny (often no more than 12"-18" long).

Real world: a dagger is a utilitarian tool used for many purposes, such as light cutting work, eating implement, and shankin' a sucka.

History

In Belegarth, a tiny spear which is sometimes used as a sidearm. Also used in ancient rituals of passage, akin to Mongolian Wrestling. According to the old lore, when drunk at night a single dagger would be thrown between two individuals, and the rest of the havoc goes without saying. Because of this old lore, some realms practice dagger fighting during downtimes.

Real world: likely one of the first tools created by man, daggers have existed since the dawn of time.

Dagger Construction

Another way of constructing a dagger is to review any of the Low Profile Spear tutorials (navigate there using the "How to Build" button on the left side of your screen), and modify it for being teeny tiny.

But really, you're just wanting to construct a stable base upon which you can build a stabbing surface on. Ideally progressive density (a harder foam, a medium foam, and then a stab foam like ensolite or dense open cell). Daggers have a lot less force behind them than spears so they have more leeway. However they can still hit hard, so their builds shouldn't be overlooked.

Daggers in Belegarth

Daggers are often a trope-e weapon (see below). However they are also often enough carried as a sidearm, instead of a short blue or mini-flail (which are other common options). While normally a poor choice as a primary weapon, it does allow for punch blocking, so can be useful (if you're wearing gloves, or are young enough to not care about your hands. Don't do this: wear gloves).

Generally not used as a primary weapon, the dagger is generally reserved for stabbing pinkies in the back. Those who do use daggers as primary weapons are: A: Foolish and new. B: Exceptional fighters. C: ninjas D: Out of weapon choices. Daggers have also been known to throw people off while fighting and if in close range are deadly. There are several games dealing with dagger alone, one of them being a dagger battle.
