Half-Fairy
General Information
Humans, as a race, have the odd ability to be able to mate with most other races and fairies are no exception. That being said, half-fairies tend to be much less common than creatures like half-orcs or half-elves. In fact, many don't believe them to exist at all. There are a few reasons for this. For one, the Fae tend to live in the realms between, avoiding other races except to dole out favor or fury. Many cultures have their own stories of the Fair Folk, but the overarching theme is that those who deal with the Fae often face grave consequences. As a result, there are few humans brave, or foolish, enough to try to court one.
Another potential reason for their rarity is the fact that when a creature other than a Fae consumes the food of Fairy, they become trapped in the Fae world forever, their spirit now owned by the Fae who tricked them. As beings that are half Human, one could speculate that half-fairies, unless rescued from the Fae world soon after birth, become trapped there as soon as they eat their first food.
It has even been argued that half-fairies, after sufficient exposure to the Magic of the Fae realm, will begin to gradually develop into full-blooded fairies. Although this begs the question, if kept away from the Fae realm, would a half-fairy gradually lose their Magic and become something similar to a regular Human?
As with most things Fae, every individual half-fairy is different, playing by different standards. For instance, one half-fairy might forever be a servant of the Fairy court, while another can come and go as they please. There is very little understanding as to why this is the case
Appearance
Fairies, as a race, vary greatly in terms of appearance and half-fairies are no different, though half-fairy characteristics tend to be more muted than their full-blooded counterparts. For instance, a half-fairy might have antlers that only poke out a few inches on their head. Their legs may be that of a satyr, but only up the shin, having Human thighs. They may have a nub on their forehead like that of a baby unicorn, but it will not grow any further. Many half-fairies have wings, but are unable to use them to fly.
At first glance, it may be difficult to distinguish a half-fairy from a full-blooded Fairy. The distinction lies in the details and is different for each individual, so there is no easy sign. When in doubt, look for an excess of human-like features, such as rounded ears or taller stature.
Half-Human
Half fairies, in addition to being half fairy, are also half human. As such, they are known to display some human qualities that other fae may not have. Most notable of these is their lack of aversion to human metals such as iron and steel. It is commonly understood that fairies cannot touch iron, given that it is inherently disruptive to magic and can burn their skin. Half-fairies do not have this weakness.
Relationships
The question as to whether the Fae creatures count as monsters has been seriously debated by scholars everywhere and the existence of half-fairies only serves to muddy the waters. There are too few half-fairies to have any overall allegiances, but they tend to ally themselves either with the Humans, firmly on the side of order and good; or with the Fae, as a neutral third party
