Practices in 2011

Beginner Practices & Games

When: Every Sunday from 12:00pm (noon) until 3:30 pm. Get invitations on Facebook by joining our Facebook group

Where: Rincon Valley Community Park in Santa Rosa, California (Click For Map & Directions) The park is located next to the Rincon Valley Library and Maria Carrillo High School, and can be accessed from Montecito Boulevard, Badger Road, or Rick Drive. We practice in the center of the park near the picnic tables and firepits, which are beneath the shade trees along the creek. There are several large open grassy areas, a water fountain, and restrooms in the vicinity.

What: These practices focus on introducing new players to different game types and basic fighting techniques, as well as general rules and etiquette. Realm equipment is available (in moderate supply) and can be used freely by newcomers and those who have not yet made their own gear and garb.

Tournaments will be held depending on attendance and winners will be rewarded with prizes. A modest feast will be served around 2:00pm during the mid-practice siesta on a first-come first-serve basis. (We ask those with particular dietary concerns to contact us ahead of time or bring their own fare).

Who: Novices & Newcomers are welcome! Anyone 14 years or older can play. Those under 18 years must bring a liability waiver signed by a parent or guardian - the Minor Generic Waiver found on this wiki will do. Old goats, veterans and players with limited experience in Belegarth, Dagorhir, or other full contact medieval combat games are also very welcome at Beginner Practices & Games.

What To Bring: Safety equipment such as mouth guards, knee pads, gloves, and athletic cups (strongly recommended). Garb is encouraged but not required. Bring your own full contact foam weapons and shields if you have them, though some gear and garb will be available for general use. Drinking water is available on site, but you may still want to bring your own. If you are under 18, be sure to bring a parent or guardian along to sign a liability waiver.

All participants must agree to abide by the rules set forth in the Book of War and will be asked to sign liability waivers. Participants must agree to conduct themselves in a gentle and respectful manner, and to play safely at all times.

Intermediate & Advanced Practices

Will run concurrent to the Beginner Practices & Games for the time being. Subject to change based on attendance and interest.

Inter-Realm Battles

Dun'Aeareans will hopefully have the chance to participate in a planned rotation of monthly Multi-Realm Battles in the Bay Area. These gatherings will include fighters from Fortriu, Pelargir, Mallenorod (a local Dagorhir chapter), Raen Dun'Aear, Salamandastron, and Saracor.

Inter-Realm Battles will be run in the style of regional-/national-events. That is to say that garb will be required, players will be encouraged to fight at their best, and the hosting realm will field yellow-clad Marshals that provide formal weapons checking and keep watch over game play. These Battles will be ideal for those interested in experiencing regional events, as well as for those who want to fight in larger games with fresh faces and different combat styles.
