On Void Constructs

Since the Dawn of Time and the rise of monsters, there have been few noted accounts of beings that should in no way be alive, yet still walk amongst the ranks of Monsterdom.

Void Constructs

No matter what you call them, The Void is ever present within them. Void Constructs throughout history have ranged from so-called “haunted items" to fully sentient beings. The difference is not within the spirit that lies within them, it is the shape in which that spirit takes. The Void has possessed more useful things than others. If you’ve ever had a door that seemed to open on its own, or a table that nothing seemed to stay on when you turned away, that was most likely a Void Construct.

Now in recent years The Void has slowly narrowed its choices to things that can further its goals; Oftentimes these things are of use to Hat Trolls and Monsterdom as a whole. Common Void Constructs range from statues to dolls, and even to scarecrows. Void Construct's obtaining of sentience was relatively new to most of the world, and lots of cultures treat them as tools, and some see them as abominations. But not the Hat Trolls, they have seen The Void in these objects since creation, and see them not as competitors or inferior beings, but as creatures of The Void. Just like them…

On Void Construct Factions

Void constructs are divided into 4 main factions, which is generally based on the material they are made of and their belief systems.

Hard body constructs that are made of metal, stone, or wood, generally belong to
The Order of The Black Sun They often believe solely in the void, and are driven to destroy the creations of the aether and return their void shard to the overall entity.

Soft body constructs that are made of cloth, leather, or other soft material generally belong to
The Order of The Living Root They often believe solely in the aether, and are driven to create more constructs and cast their stones to steal more shards from the void.

Constructs that are made of a mixture of hard body and soft body materials generally belong to
The Order of The Eternal Bond They often believe neither the void nor the aether should exist in full control, they believe in balance whether that be by harmonizing the two, or destroying them both.

Fragile constructs made from materials such as porcelain or crystalline glass generally belong to
The Order of The Forsaken Wind They often believe that neither the void nor the aether should be worried about in life, and focus on their own temporary existence, for they could shatter or blow away in the breeze at any moment

Garb Signifiers

Face Covering

  • covering the mouth. Void Constructs speak not from fleshy vocal cords, but their words emanate from their shard of the void into the minds of those who are hearing them

Visible Signs of Repair

  • unlike many monsters, void constructs repair themselves and their gear, whether it is stitching their arm or leg back onto them, or welding a hole where they were stabbed back together, Void Constructs do not leave themselves tattered.
