Title: Eala'ar (pronounced ay-lahr): This word means "keeper of the wild" in Faelesh. It is a fitting title for a Fae Knight who protects the creatures and plants of the wild from harm.
The word "Eala" comes from the Old Fae word "eal", which means "wild". This suggests the idea of a guardian who protects the untamed beings and untamed parts of the natural world, such as forests, mountains, and rivers. The word "ar" is a suffix that means "one who keeps" or "the one who keeps".
So, the word "Eala'ar" literally means "the one who keeps the wild". In this context, the "wild" represents the natural world, and the "keeper" is the one who protects it from harm.
Historicalz
Mitzunare was born to Kuzunoha, a Yōkai Kitsune, leader of the village Zao Mura.
The vast majority of his childhood was spent frolicking in the surrounding forests with his best friend Kiyomasa, racing along the tree-tops, playing hide and seek and sparring for fun in the heavily wooded areas. Mitzunare always felt that he lived in the shadow of his friend Kiyomasa, who was the head of their local “Fighting School”, the mandatory classes each growing member of the Village were required to participate in.
The Village was located just south of a large Realm known as Dur Demarion, which was an area known far and wide for its consistent war, aggression and bloodthirsty miscreants, so it was not uncommon for Monsters and Hardy warriors looking to hone their skills and test themselves in the thick of battle to roam the woods, searching for viable foes, or in some cases just innocent Villagers and/or children to slay for their own entertainment.
Kuzunoha and her Council were well aware of the lurking threats within their surrounding areas, but instead of attempting to alienate their young from the World that awaited them, they instead chose to educate them in combat from an early age, pitting them in battles against one another in trials of strength.
Mitzunare had never been as good as his friend Kiyomasa in these exercises, consistently making a fool of himself among his peers, not being fully attentive and disrespecting his teachers to the point of ridicule, more than a few times being expelled from the classes and being told he’d never make it in the real world. But none of this mattered once the day of work and training was completed, when he and his friend were able to leave the Village and roam the surrounding areas to play among themselves..
One day, the two friends were making their daily rounds when they happened upon a most peculiar creature, a lanky male that stood taller than any of their fellow Villagers, almost unbelievably so. The creature was clumsily trudging through the Forest, spit running from between two immensely large teeth that protruded from his mouth upwards, only just not blocking his own vision as they were angled to either side of his eyes, his muscles, although small, were well toned and his veins could be seen to pulse with each obvious pump of his heart.
He pushed aside smaller trees with ease, grunting aggressive as he murmured with aggravation, until he called out “Com ‘er, littl’ fur’ehs!” in a deep, demonic voice. The two naive friends looked to each other, cocking their heads in interest and confusion, shrugging their shoulders and returning their gaze to the Greenish individual once again, only to see that he had disappeared with no sound. “I wonder where he went..?” Mitzunare quietly whispered to his friend.. “I’m not sure.. I didn’t even hear him le-“ his sentence interrupted by a sudden crushing sound, as a huge Axe came crashing down on the bushes they hid in, both of the young Kitsune friends scrambled to their feet, rushing away from the large creature.
They ran as fast as their feet could carry them, the tall, lanky figure close on their heels for being such an unhealthy looking thing, he was just as nimble as them, if not more-so. They ran for what felt like an eternity before they began to smell the unfamiliar scent of burning flesh, mixed with loud screams for mercy, the ringing of steel on steel, bones crunching and many other attacks on the senses that they were familiar with and unfamiliar with at the same time.
Upon clearing the tree line, they were gruesomely greeted with the sight of half their village in roaring flames, many of beings that resembled their pursuer laying assault upon their friends and family. Kiyomasa looked to Mitzunare and, in fright yelled to him “I remember hearing about these things! They’re called Orcs!”. Mitzunare looked to his friend, shaking his head “There’s no way?? I thought they didn’t live anywhere near us!”. The two looked back to the scene before them, no sooner than they did, the trees seemed to burst apart behind them, their pursuing assailant jutting through the foliage, his axe far in the air ready to strike, before either of them could react the Orc brought his axe down, in a loud roar the Orc twisted the axe in mid-swing, removing the head of Mitzunare’s friend right before him in one clean sweep..
Mitzunare stared in horror as his childhood best friend’s body instantly fell to the ground before him, blood pouring from his body to create a pool of it around his feet. Mitzunare looked back to the Orc, who raised his axe once again, ready to launch another attack. Just then, an arrow pierced directly through the Orc’s head. The Orc fell straight forward toward Mitzunare, who stood there, frozen in terror from the scene that had just taken place before him. The Orc’s dead body laid upon Mitzunare for what felt like hours, covering the poor boy’s face and torso in its vile and repulsive smelling blood, saliva and sweat.
Mitzunare was wholly ignored by the rest of the conflict due to his disgusting guise beneath the dead body of the Orc, hidden to the rest of the event. The sounds of steel, screaming and gore came to a pause after what felt like a lifetime, only to be shortly followed by the sound of shuffling and thumping, Mitzunare struggled to move the head of the Orc that laid upon him so he could better see what was happening, he eventually was able to see a few wounded Guardsmen and Warriors moving the bodies of the Orcs, piercing each of them through the head to ensure their death.
One of them approached him, seeming to skip the procedure and raising his blade his into the air, tip pointed down, ready to drive his weapon through the back of the Orc, which would definitely find its mark, and also pierce Mitzunare with it. He tried to scream for the man to stop, but the immense pressure from the gargantuan creature would not allow him to muster the breath needed for a wail. Thankfully, the Guardsman saw Mitzunare’s muddy tail wriggling pitifully from beneath the Monster.
The Guardsman pushed the Orc off of Mitzunare, allowing him to crawl from beneath him and fight frantically to get his breathing back to a normal pace. “Mitzunare, are you ok? How long have you been there?” The concerned male asked him. “It doesn’t matter! What happened? Where did they come from? Why did they attack us?”
The Guardsman looked upon Mitzunare with sad eyes, shaking his head as he looked to the ground.. “We do not know.. They only spoke of wanting to slay us and take our livestock..” Mitzunare groaned angrily “But why? Why us??” the Guardsman placed his hand on Mitzunare’s shoulder.. “Mitzunare, you need to leave here.. Quickly.. There are more coming, other Villagers that have returned from the outskirts of the Village have reported there is another group on the way to finish the job..” Mitzunare shook his arm from the Guardsman’s embrace “No, I’ll stay and fight! I can’t leave my Mother here alone with these things!”
Then, the male looked upon Mitzunare with such a sad look in his eyes.. “Your mother, she’s dead Mitzunare.. They got her while she was looking for you..”.. Mitzunare stared a hole through him, tears welling up in his eyes and running down his face.. He shook his head in denial “No! It’s not possible! You’re LYING!!” Just then, the sound of sudden guttural roaring interrupted their conversation, on the far end of the Village, Axes slamming into the sides of buildings could be heard as the Orcs were launching their second, final assault. The man pushed Mitzunare, telling him to run and save himself. Mitzunare shook his head, about to dispute the man’s orders, just then an Orc jumped from the top of a nearby building, landing upon the man, the sound of bones crunching and snapping beneath its weight made Mitzunare’s fur stand on end, the pitiful screams of the defeated man wailing out slowly becoming distant echoes as Mitzunare ran as fast as his body would physically allow, running in the direction of where he had been told Dur Demarion was located..
Mitzunare ran all through the night, the sounds of his loved ones being slain echoing through his mind with each footstep, each crack of a twig sounding like bone, each limb that caught his clothing sounding like flesh tearing. Nothing was sacred upon his ears as he continued to force his body to flee the hell he had just endured… His body, eventually, would no longer allow him to press on, his muscles burning with an intensity he had never felt before. He came to a stop in a rather large field, leaning against a tree and attempting to ease his rapid, panicked breathing.
His lungs felt as if they were full of fire, each breath surging the dry and stabbing pain through his entire body, he clenched his chest, whimpering nervously as he fell forward to the ground, unable to bear the sensory overload. He looks to his surroundings, trying to make sense of where his feet have taken him, as he surveys the area he noticed sounds he had not previously noticed, the sounds of steel meeting steel, much like what he had just fled from. Panic began to set in as his vision began to reveal to him the silhouettes of individuals fighting with each other, but unlike what he had just seen, these individuals seemed to be friendly, sparring, if you will.
Even so, the gruesome nature of what he had just gone through did not allow him to acknowledge that this could be a peaceful scenario, he let out a panicked scream as he attempted to regain his composure and get to his feet, during his struggle for balance he noticed a figure turn their attention toward him and begin to advance upon him. With this realization he heightened his efforts to get to his feet, although to no avail. The sudden urgency only weakened his body more, causing him to fall to the ground, the last thing he saw was the figure advancing even quicker toward him, almost in a worrisome demeanor. His vision faded to darkness, the last thing in his sight being a creature that looks sort of like him, a Canine-esque humanoid of some sort, carrying a Bow & Arrow and, not far behind her, what seemed to be some sort of Reptile-like person in close approach as well..
As he faded in and out of consciousness he caught glimpses of people surrounding him, a FREAKING VAMPIRE looking over his body for wounds and attempting to nurture the bad ones, the Canine-esque female that had approached him first holding him up from the ground to keep him elevated and the large Reptile-like individual looking around frantically at the tree line, as if preparing for battle.. With each breath he took, his consciousness seemed to fade deeper and deeper from his grasp.. In what felt like one last futile attempt, he muttered softly to the Canine female that held him, “Please.. he-lp.. me..” With that, his eyes shut for what he felt may be the last time..
Suddenly, Mitzunare’s eyes bolted open, and he lunged forward, in a panicked attempt to escape from the people surrounding him, the ground beneath him seemed to fall with the sudden shift in angle, his body rotated to the left and he tumbled from what was now apparent to being a bed, slamming down onto the hard wooden floor beneath him. He clawed and scraped at the wooden floor, hurrying to his feet and bolting to the nearest door, which opened just a second before he reached it. Mitzunare ran full-force into the large Reptile-like creature from before, who stood there, head cocked to the side with a confused and slightly amused look on their face as Mitzunare bounced from his mid-area, flopping down to the ground behind him like a simple ragdoll.
“Duuude, calm down. You’re safe here..” said the towering individual. “Wh-who are you!? Where a-am I??” responded Mitzunare, slightly worried and aggravated at the amusing, almost mocking tone of the creature. “Name’s Tandaar, littl’un. You’re in my friend Aeron’s Medical Center, and you have been for nearly a week now..” Mitzunare looked around at the room he was in once again, simple medical supplies were sat neatly around the room and especially the bed he had just laid in.. “Y-you saved me..?” The large individual crossed his arms and nodded his head “I did, along with my Gallak, Arshank and our Healer, Aeron. Who maintains the room you’re making a mess of.”
Just then, Arshank pushed past the massive creature, walking quickly toward Mitzunare, waving a wooden spoon at him with an aggravated look on her face, as she got closer he looked at the spoon, seeing it had “NOPE” written along the beveled tip of it. “WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?? We save you and you go an’ make a mess of our facilities!? So ungrateful!!” she barked at him, he winced in remorse, shaking his head as he cowered downward onto the mattress he had spilled onto the floor. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry! I just don’t know what to do!” the Canine and Reptile-like creature looked to each other, letting out a sigh… “It’s ok, don’t worry about it.. Just tell us what happened, why did you run out of the woods covered in wounds?”
Mitzunare explained to the couple what had happened, why he was there, and that he now had no home or place to go to.. Over the course of the next few months they allowed him to share their company, so long as he caused no trouble and was a productive resident, they revealed to him that they were a travelling group of companions under the name of “Vorshen”, that they had recently landed in Dur-Demarion after many adventures abroad, and they had decided to make the area their home for the moment. Tandaar and Arshank took Mitzunare under their command and trained him to use Sword and Shields, Glaives, Spears and a little bit of Bow and Arrow. He was allowed to fight alongside them when they were called to battle during a war referred to as “All Halllow’s Eve” in the Winter of 2015 and, most recently, he was allowed to fight alongside them when a group of Vikings had attempted to invade the realm of Dur Demarion.
Shortly after the latter battle, Vorshen extended an offer to Mitzunare to join their ranks and become part of their family, of which he had been excitedly pestering them about for quite some time. Currently he is an active member (or pet) of Vorshen.
Recently, Mitzunare has ventured back out to the area where his Village once stood.. He sat up a small training grounds in the plot of land that was previously occupied by buildings, and has begun to occasionally train the residents of nearby villages that can not make the long trek to Dur Demarion in his free time, offering the skills and tactics he has learned from his peers to any minds that wish to prepare themselves for the unforeseen. He has named this area "Vulpes Venatus", which roughly translates to "Fox Games".
Character Name
I actually, originally, was called "Malthael" for the longest time. It was the name of a character in Diablo 1 and Diablo 2, part of the Angiris Council. Blizzard had not yet used the character in any of their digital media, having only been mentioned in the Books that no body has read. I went by Malthael for the better part of 4 years (?) before Blizzard decided to make him a MAIN FREAKING ANTAGONIST IN THE EXPANSION PACK FOR DIABLO 3 AND OUT ME AS A PLAGIARIZER. Thus, Mitzunare. Mitzunare is a name I came up with while I was just sitting in Wordpad, playing around with a bunch of ways to make a name out of "Mittens" because I'm a HOPELESS CUTESY FOX FURRY THAT WANTED A CUTE NAME.
