You are mistaken in separating the "blue camp pad" from polyethlyene.

Camp pad IS polyethylene. In fact it's also basically the same non-crosslinked type as the white cube under the "polyethylene" entry.

Polyethlyene has many different attributes: 1. Crosslinked vs non-crosslinked 2. EVA (only shows up in crosslinked versions AFAIK). EVA is a softening additive. 3. Density. Some of the heaviest PE foams are 5x or more heavier than the lightest 4. HDPE vs LDPE. HDPE is a VERY rare type, only mfg'd by Zotefoam. Really tough, stiff-as-a-board stuff even in light weights. 5. Any number of other exotic additives, flame retardency, etc.
