Deep within the hearts of some lies a deep sorrow and anguish. This energy gives off a subtle aura that Old Gods, exiled and forgotten by those that once worshiped them, sustained themselves off of for thousands of years. When a mortal gives off an exceptional amount of these energies, the '''Forgotten Ones''' extend a feeling of longing inside of them. This "Gift" creates a drawing towards the oceans of the world where the subjects kneel before the stones that rise from the waves and take the hands of these foul gods, to aid them in revenge against the realms that betrayed them eons ago.

Syrens can originate from any race, and any gender. Ancient, malevolent gods known as the "Forgotten Ones" linger deep in the heart of the ocean, locked in a realm called The Void. They feed off of the world's sorrows, buried deep in the hearts of those who walk the land. Trapped in their realm beneath the ocean, the Forgotten Ones can muster very little power; however, their powers wax and wane with the cycles of the moon. When a full moon rises over a stormy sea, the Forgotten Ones send out the Calling. The Calling can only be heard by those who harbour deep Sorrows in their hearts; Sorrows are any strong, negative emotion such as wrath or fear that can consume a person. The Calling is used to lure hurt souls to the oceans. The victims embark on a journey that leads them to the deep waters, where storms inevitably sink their ships. Before the victim can drown, the Forgotten Ones harvest them, drawing them into The Void where they offer the victim a second chance at life so long as they swear an oath to fulfill one task: wipe out the land dwellers who had forsaken them and banished them to their watery prison, and destroy all who dared forget them. If the oath is taken, the Forgotten Ones gift the victim with the patronage of a sea creature to restore the life lost in the process of drowning. Bands are burned into the victims' forearms to seal the oathtaking, and then the victim is sent back into the world, equipped to fulfill their dark oath.

How to become a Syren
