A retainer is an apprentice in waiting to a knight.
History
During the Middle Ages a Retainer reffered to a person, more specifically, a soldier in service to a Lord. Soth had some retainers once. They were awesome.
Within Belegarth
Retaining is a cool way to roleplay allegiance to another person roleplaying a Knight. Often this is done to learn from that knight, study with that knight and vie for a squireship from that knight. Sometimes having an official title gives one more clout and being a retainer is a good way to get that.
