Back Story

Tarnis Lockhart was born to a serving maid of clan Lockhart. No one would step forward to claim the deed and his mother died in childbirth. All knew one of the men of Clan Lockhart had to be the father but as all were already married everyone also knew no one would step forward to claim him. He was raised as a servant till Sir Simon Lockhart who took to the boy. Sir Simon knew the boy to be family even if none would claim him and set about getting him the education he would need to survive as more than just a servant, for Simon felt Lockhart's blood was called to more.

The Years flew by as Tarnis trained and studied. He showed an aptitude for fighting and music and learned when it was important to speak and when he should hold his tongue. He eventually squired under Sir Simon and accompanied him on the Crusades. Whether they were just or not, Tarnis would not say, but he owed his standing to Sir Simon, so follow him he did. It was during these travels during an ambush by raiders that Tarnis was thrown from his horse into a ravine. When he awoke, he could not believe his eyes.

Fairies, they dance in front of his eyes and hover over his body. He could feel his wounds knit and close as they sang in a haunting language, then his eyes grew heavy as he felt his body warm. He dreamed a fever dream; he saw his boyhood, then his mother pregnant, then faster the founding of the clan, then faster still till he saw scenes he did not recognize men running through the woods over logs and sliding under branches, never slowing, Fights and battle in the armor he had seen on display. He sat up in a start. He looked about the fairies gone as he sat in the middle of a ring of mushrooms. He had his sword and pack. As Tarnis stood, he did not recognize where he was. It seemed familiar, like that of his dream, but more wild and dangerous than the world he remembered. As his stomach growled, he knew he had to move.

As Tarnis traveled, he found settlements but while the buildings reminded him of older styles, these seemed new. He traveled for some time till he met a roving band of warriors. Though they threatened him initially, they soon found themselves sharing drinks and food. This band was the O’Reilighies. As they broke bread, Tarnis soon realized that he was in an age from the legends, That while the Fairies saved his life, they had not sent him home. He became depressed, but the leader of the band, Argyle, made him an offer, to travel with them and fight. They always could use a sword arm, and Tarnis seemed lost and without purpose, so maybe he could find it with them. Tarnis agreed, for he was not one to wallow. As he traveled with the band, they eventually joined the Fianna, and after many trials, Tarnis pledged fealty to them and became at peace with his new life
