Path of the Ancients

The Path of the Ancients

Among the many callings open to the Wyld Fae is the Path of the Ancients, a tradition that teaches reverence for the enduring wisdom and spirit of the Pacific Northwest. Rather than claiming dominion over the land, they earn its respect through acts of service, stewardship, and learning how to put down roots that will support a better future for us all. In return, the wilds reveal their oldest secrets, granting insight and strength to those who prove themselves trustworthy.

Wyld Fae called to this Path will be challenged to prove their commitment to their domain and their community through various tasks that range from guiding a new player through their first event, to bettering a space used by their realm to ensure the good they spread lasts long after they have left the Path.

Lorekeepers

Serving as a Lorekeeper for any of the Paths is seen as a great honor, and is a way for Wyld Fae to both provide service for their community and help preserve the teachings of the old ways. Anyone following this Path can volunteer to become a Lorekeeper for a set period of time in order to guide local Wyld Fae through the many steps along the journey.

Lorekeepers are responsible for preserving lore and traditions, approving quest adjustments, mentoring those on the Path, and maintaining the records of the Bottles and Path participants.

Honorary Names

Lorekeepers may also grant customized Names for deeds witnessed at gatherings, creating moments of special recognition while still honoring the Path of the Ancients’ primary advancement methods of sustained service, stewardship, and contribution. Such Names can include:

  • Firekeeper
  • Pathfinder
  • Campwright
  • Songsmith
  • Steward of Roads
  • Loreweaver
  • Waterbearer
  • Friendmaker

On occasion, a Lorekeeper may also present a customized Rare Name to a Wyld Fae on any Path. Rare Names are gifted to any Wyld Fae who demonstrate exceptional and consistent contributions regardless of their path. Rare Names can include:

  • The Unyielding
  • Keeper of a Hundred Fires
  • Friend of Realms
  • The Remembered

Rare Names count as five Names toward advancement, may only be granted with approval of multiple Wyld Fae, and must be tracked in the gifting Lorekeeper's records.

Beginning Your Journey

Any Wyld Fae are invited to follow the Path of the Ancients. Connecting with a Lorekeeper before beginning your journey is not required, but it can provide some valuable insight into how each step can be personalized to fit the skills of each individual.

The only requirement when starting down this Path is for a Wyld Fae to have their sacred Bottle of Names, and a Glimmer to carry completion tokens and the memories of those they have encountered on the Path.

The requirements for each step of this Path can be found here, please make a copy for yourself, and then follow the tabs for each step from Seedkeeper Initiate to Granny Deep Seed (credit to Unicorn).

Upon Completion

Upon completion of the Path steps as well as the final three trials, Wyld Fae may add greenery of their choosing to the right side of their personal sigil to signify that they have earned the trust and respect of the Ancient Woods, and may carry a carved Heartwood token on their Glimmers.

The most commonly chosen representations of this Path are ferns and mosses.
