The Myth

Born in the Highlands of Scotland to a poor family, Morgan McClung was ever the opportunist. His father, William, was a wainwright and a soldier in the War of Scottish Independence fighting alongside Sir William Wallace.

Morgan chose a different path. After an argument with his father over Morgan's affection for a local teen boy his age, he left home at the age of fifteen. He spent a year at sea until his ship was attacked by pirates and he was sold as a slave to a Chinese lord. He escaped China and his would-be master and found himself at sea again until the fishing boat he had stowed away on sank off the coast of Okinawa. He managed to swim to shore and was rescued from near death by the man who would become his sensei and surrogate father, Hirahito Tanaka.

After his recovery Morgan worked for a short time for Tanaka as a personal escort. Morgan learned enough Japanese to convince Tanaka of the fortunes he could make if he allowed Morgan to take Okinawan items to Europe to sell. Tanaka made Morgan the Captain of the trading vessel Kurai Hoshi and he set sail for Scotland. After fending off pirate attacks and and British war ships, Morgan and his crew finally arrived back in Scotland. He spent a few months travelling around the British Isles selling Okinawan finery to Nobles and Royalty. Morgan was unable to fetch the prices he had anticipated for his goods and left Scotland for Okinawa with barely enough money for the trip. It was during this time that Morgan fathered his two scottish sons, Lachlan and Liam.

During the return trip, the Kurai Hoshi was attacked by an English Crown ship for refusing to pay tax as homage to King Edward II who's consort, Percival, was aboard. Morgan and his crew not only won the battle they also looted the attacking HMS Phillip recovering a huge amount of gold and jewels. However, Morgan's first mate and dear friend, Ru Yoshida convinced him to leave the ship afloat and it's passengers alive for fear of retribution from England.

It has been speculated that Morgan and his crew became pirates on the return journey nearly tripling the amount they had taken from the Phillip. When they arrived back in Okinawa, Morgan was now one of the two wealthiest men on the island at the age of seventeen, the other being his sensei and business partner, Tanaka.

He spent the next six years under Tanaka's training studying various martial arts. He had all but decided to settle in Okinawa until a feud erupted between The Tanaka family and the nearby Yoshida family. Morgan was accused of having improper relations with two siblings and members of the Yoshida family, Ru and Yukio. Rather than be the cause of a near civil war, Morgan used his considerable wealth to flee with Ru, Yukio and Yukio's son Kurou for his native Scotland.

Soon after they left port, Ru died at sea from a wound sustained during the escape from Okinawa leaving Morgan, Yukio and Kurou to make the journey alone. Nearly a year later they arrived in Scotland. Shortly after their arrival, Yukio died of an unknown condition. On her deathbed she told Morgan that the toddler Kurou was actually his son and begged him to raise the child.

Morgan took Kurou and returned to his father who had moved to Blackford some seventeen miles south of Edinburgh. It was then that he first learned of his two sons by a Scottish mother. The young boys had been left in William's care by their mother. Later that year William passed away, leaving Morgan to raise the three boys on his own.

Morgan instructed his sons in the many arts of war and fighting tactics that he had learned over his lifetime. Although still considerably wealthy, Morgan led a simple life not wanting to expose his presence or draw suspicions as to the origins of his family's wealth to the authorities.

When the boys were older Morgan set out on many more adventures of which only some are documented. He has recently come to The Crimson Fields to rejoin his family in the Clan McClung, which is led by his eldest son, Lachlan.

Although a skilled fighter and martial artist, Morgan was known to avoid a fight whenever possible. In a poem written by Blind Harry, Morgan is noted as saying: "I am Morgan McClung of the Clan McClung and I fight when I am challenged. But I'd prefer if you didn't challenge, just the same."
