The Hat Troll Pictogram for "Maytan"
Maytans have historically been known as the Leader of Hat Troll tribes. What few Hat Trolls can be seen are generally leaderless and nomadic, however, which lead to the rise of the two main types of Maytan: Maytan of the Tribe (as in ages past) and Maytan of the Tusk; Maytans who are not leaders of a tribe but pillars of Hat Trolldom.

And, as the ages have passed, Hat Trolls began to form bonds with other Trolls and began to accept them as their Kin, welcoming them to become Maytans alongside them.

Earning the Title of Maytan:

Maytan is a Lore/ Service/ Leadership/ Visibility Troll Title open to all Troll subspecies. There are two types of Maytan, who share the same amount of responsibility to Trolldom and respect within Trolldom: Maytan of the Tusk (‘Longfang’ Troll Leaders) and Maytan of the Tribe (Referred to as “Maytan of the ‘Tribe Name’ Tribe”).

Maytan of the Tribe (For an existing Tribe) Requirements: Be elected/ awarded the Title by members of your tribe as per your tribal tradition.

Maytan of the Tribe (For creating a new Tribe) Requirements: Follow the Maytan of the Tusk requirements below while designing your tribe, so its debut conforms to expectations of what an existing, fully-fledged Troll tribe is.

Maytan of the Tusk Requirements: Create a Proposal for; then Develop a Plan for; & then Execute a Significant Project that increases the Visibility of Trolls and people’s interest in Trolldom; By engaging/ unifying Trolls in lore/ Trolldom to make us look appealing, and/or lead groups of Trolls (such as a War Party, Gang, or Family)

Step 1: Talk to your fellow trolls to gather ideas/ support for your proposal. Think creatively, explore what you are interested in as well as what other trolls think would be valuable. Narrow down your idea to create a rough proposal.

Step 2: Submit your proposal to Trolldom in at least two forums; one online (on the Trolls of Belegarth page for example), at least one week before; one in ‘person’ (discussed in person at an event or in a Discord call with trolls). If all trolls agree to the proposal, you continue forward. If any Troll dissents to it and is seconded, you must revise your proposal with their feedback in mind and resubmit it.

Step 3: Create a plan to turn your proposal into a project. For a rough outline, follow the basic 5 W’s: Who, What, When, Where, Why. Who (specifically, or how many) needs to be there. What will be done? When will it happen, will it be a single event, a day of that event, a battle, a month, a year? Where will it happen, what event, or forum? Last but not least, remember the Why: To further Trolldom. Make the plan as specific as you need it to be to be successful.

Step 4: Execute your project. Things will go wrong. Things will go right.

Step 5: Submit evidence of your project being completed, including at least your plan and written/ oral/ visual account of the project by at least two other trolls to the rest of Trolldom on the Trolls of Belegarth page. If any troll disents and is seconded, seek input on how to add on additional parts to your project to remove their dissent. Once you have removed all dissent, you are a Maytan.

Maytans are signified by an unbroken ring/ circlet of metal around some part of their body. For a Hat Troll Maytan this would be a circlet around their hat, for other trolls it might be around their wrist, waist, leg, etc. Maytans are also given the right to wear the Maytan symbol prominently on their garb; Maytans of the Tribe may opt to wear their Tribal system instead, or both symbols.
