A Great Kilt (also known as Belted Plaid or Ancient Kilt) is a type of kilt worn by the Scottish clansmen of the Middle Ages. It was worn around the waist, with a piece of plaid cloth thrown over one shoulder attached in the front and back. It is belted together by a belt or rope. It sometimes is pleated, sometimes is not.
