Forge Watcher's Seasoning

From BelegarthWiki

History

One of the duties of apprentices around the forges of any dwarven hold is to pull a shift watching the forges to keep their fires lit when not in use. There is a logic in that keeping the forges going is cheaper, easier, and more efficient than constantly relighting them, especially during times of boom when the forges rest for relatively short periods of time. The forge apprentices have worked with the apprentices in the kitchen to develop a savory flavoring that can be easily modified to be spicier, sweeter, smokier, or more savory. The resulting blend can be used on almost any kind of meat and cooked in many different ways, which lends itself ideal to less than ideal settings for cooking. Such as a pan slapped in a forge when the Forge Masters aren't watching, or out camping while travelling.

Real World Stuff

This recipe provides substantial amount of a dry BBQ rub that works well with most foods. From baked chicken quarters to smoked beef, this rub is very versatile. As this recipe generates a fair amount (2-ish cups), the flavor is modifiable, it provides a strong base that's not overpowering, and that it works well with most meats, this seasoning should make for an excellent camp staple. When it comes to putting another sauce on top, this seasoning supports what you put on it, it doesn't fight in. As a result, if someone makes chicken breasts with this seasoning on it and the camp members each uses their own sauce, each person should walk away happy. On the topic of modifiable, regional and roleplay regions can easily be represented by adding herbs and spices from the region represented, or switching out items with a different version of them (such as paprika for smoked paprika, or a specific chile powder for additional kick)
