The State of Hawaii is a tropical chain of islands and the most recent member of the USA. Visitors may notice that the 🤙 hand sign (thumb and pinkie out, back of the hand facing forward) is used to show acknowledgement or friendliness in this state.

Geography

The largest, most southeastern island in the chain is Hawai'i, which is the namesake of the state; that island is usually referred to as The Big Island to avoid confusion. The other islands are, ordered from east to west and south to north: Maui, Kaho'olawe, Lāna'i, Moloka'i, O'ahu, Kaua'i, Ni'ihau.

Flight

Airports on O'ahu, Maui, Kaua'i, and both the northeastern and northwestern sides of The Big Island serve direct international flights. However, the main point of contact for international flights is the city of Honolulu's Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, on the island of O'ahu. To fly to Lāna'i and Moloka'i, one must come from an airport within the state.[1]

Consumer Costs

For various reasons, including transport costs and tourism, prices on the islands are high. When visiting, one should overestimate their island shopping expenses relative to one's regular budget. However, since liquor stores are not state-run, it is possible to buy alcohol more cheaply than on most of the mainland if good sales are found.
