Just built my second bamboo mid length spear (around 7') using the entirely marine foam striking head. It really is wierd; it's unpleasant on light hits, mildly harder on medium, and almost unnoticiably different on hard hits. (Every time they get weapon tested, I assume they missed/glanced my back on the hard hit.
