In the old days in Asheron's Call, the quieter parts of the landscape were dotted with random spawns of bunnies. Bunnies had negligible hitpoints and could usually be killed in one hit by any adventurer who was not hideously crippled, though lowbies would sometimes have trouble actually connecting due to low weapon skill.

It was harmless pastime and there is no one who played who didn't periodically go on a rampage and kill as many bunnies as possible just to hear them squeal and die -- though I do know at least one player who claimed to feel bad about it every time. And do it anyway.

Mob assist code being the simplistic thing it was at that point in the MMORPG chain, mistakes were sometimes made in implementation -- like broadly stating that any mob that was attacked by a player would respond and that all their nearby friends would also assist. The upshot of this was periodically seeing newbies running for their lives from the Bunny Rabbit Self-Defense Force.

The thunder of Brown Rabbit crushing <player> echoes from the hillsides!
