Rules. They exist for a reason those who break them die. That phrase was the voice over to the death of my teacher. A death that replayed over and over again in my brain, if only I hadn’t broken the rules she’d be alive, I’d be alive, this must be hell…

Suddenly I find myself awaken from my nightmare, my body is covered in cuts and bruises where I still have skin. Memories of my death come rushing back. I must have been dead for a while because I’m mostly just bone held together by magic… interesting… as I’m gathering my surroundings another Khajiit appears and the calming presence from before letting me know I was safe… that this person was safe… as we navigate our way back towards people or shelter of some sort I learn her name, Dymphna, and her story. In return, I tell her what I know of mine, though my memories are scattered I remember being hung for being a witch and the comforting presence that reached out to me before my death. I don’t remember my name, so I don’t give her one. As we turn around a corner we see a giant keep not far way and a cat glowing with orange and white magic, like me, that comes running towards us. Not far behind is a Shadow creature and a blue humanoid behind it. As they get closer Dymphna shouts out the name “Gekko!” and runs towards him with excitement. I linger back a bit nervous and scared when the cat comes and wraps herself around my leg. I bend down to pet her and she immediately starts purring. I hear a female voice from the Shade, “I see you brought Copper to life, Gekko worked very hard to fix her body after the monster attacker her, but it seems you had the special tough to bring her alive.”

“Well I think she’s my familiar in this life, so it’s probably the only creature I’m bringing back to life.”

She went on to introduce herself as [[Abacus Blue]], but when she asked for my name I shrugged unable to remember it. She smiled almost happy that I didn’t know it and proclaimed, “then we shall call you Nea for that’s the name I gave you as a Thrall!”

My first days mentally present at the Keep are a bit of a blur. The Lost, specifically [Abacus Blue] had taken to calling me Nea because I was wearing a brown, pink, and white outfit. I don’t quite remember my name, I believe my parents nicknamed me Hexan as a kid but my memories are faint. So I chose to stick with Nea and to honor my past I’m using Hexan as a last name.  There is one important day that will always be crystal clear in my memory. The day Angelina died.

I didn’t remember it at first until one day The Lost was playing a fighting game of sorts in the yard while I and a couple of others sat and watched petting Copper. When suddenly one of the fighters broke a rule of the game and before they could even apologize to the other player’s tendrils of my magic burst from me killing the fighter. I panic and suddenly I’m reliving the night Angelina died over and over. [Abacus Blue] managed to calm me enough to get me inside and make me hot chocolate (pro-tip hot chocolate is great after panic attacks) and explained to me that sometimes the void transforms the magic and trauma people have. For example, her body was made of shadows because it’s how the void dealt with the curse placed upon her. My curse of sorts was my guilt and from now on those who break the rules die. Luckily the members of The Lost are undead and therefor don’t permanently die, so I don’t feel as bad about my magic killing them.

Gekko had been experimenting with creating hobgoblyn bodies and while he couldn’t put a soul in them he could recreate the body and hope the void took a shinning to the small creature. So Gekko got to work repairing the kitten; adding in copper where bones were broken and shattered beyond repair. As Gekko worked he named the kitten Copper after the material he was using to repair her body.

In another area of The Keep, a Thrall named Nea by [[Abacus Blue]] was wondering the castle when they were struck by a flying object as their mind and body became one. As they fell to the ground they released a way of magic bring the kitten Copper to life. Gekko watched and followed Copper as she jumped off the table and ran through the castle towards the unconscious skeleton Khajiit.

One evening, while Abacus Blue and Gekko were working in the workshop, Copper sprung to life, both the Shade and the Hobgoblin curiously followed after the cat through The Keep and out to the wilderness beyond. As they stepped out the door they saw two figures in the distance one was a glowing skeleton Khajiit wrapped in strands of blue, pink, and purple magic similar to what had happened to Copper. The other was not glowing and therefore harder to see, but the figure of another Khajiit was obvious as they drew closer. Copper immediately wrapped herself around the glowing Khajiit happy to have found her Witch.

When Gekko arrived at the scene he found the kitten nuzzled by Nea’s side while Abacus looked over them worried. After inquiring about the state of the Thrall  Gekko picked up the unconscious skeleton Khajiit and brought them to an empty bedroom, while the kitten Copper pranced behind them happy to have found her Witch.

The Lore of Nea Hexen

The Short and Tragic Story of a Magic Infested Khajiit

I showed signs of being a khajiit witch from a young age, which was both terrifying and awesome for a young khajiit often. No one in my village practiced magic that could teach me how to control my power. For a while, my parents and community tried to help using the past histories of other khajiit witches from the surrounding area, but at age fourteen my powers had grown to uncontrollable and I moved to be close to a teacher.

My teacher's name was Angelina. Angelina was also a khajiit witch and lived in a small village that was near a wild and untamable woods. Khajiit witches tend to be very in touch with the wild side of nature and that made the place Angelina lived perfectly for new witches. I studied with Angelina for seven years during that time I mastered my skills. We found out that I was very adept at influencing the desire of animals; I could easily calm and communicate with animals. My biggest struggle was my magic would often spin out of control when I was angry, upset, or panicking.

One terrible terrible night Angelina and I got into a fight over one of her rules, and I ran out into the woods. My anger caused me to create a tornado and poor Angelina, who ran after me, got caught in it and was killed. I held her in my arms as she passed, too far gone for a healing spell. I buried her in her garden, packed my bags, and fled into the night.

While the village feared Angelina, they didn't fear me, and with her death, I knew the villagers would be after me. They hated our kind, and with Angelina dead, they had the perfect excuse to get rid of me. So I ran and ran until I came upon an area called Villijatam hoping to find a place to rest after many weary days on the road. After weeks of traveling, I came upon a place I’d only heard about called “The Old Towns” here I found a bed and a hot meal. Unfortunately, a trader from my teacher’s village saw me and told the people in the town. They pulled me from my bed and hung me from a tree beside a bridge connected to a tall island. Then they stood there and watched. I didn’t want to die, so I poured every ounce of magic I could summon in my weary state to send a beacon out for help. As I was taking what I thought was my last breath I felt something reach out to my magic and change me.

When I woke up I was still hung up in the tree, someone had left a knife nearby and I used magic to summon it to me. I cut myself down and made my way across the bridge towards the weird energy and hopefully toward safely.

Follow the Rules or Die

My first days mentally present at the Keep are a bit of a blur. The Lost, specifically Abacus Blue had taken to calling me Nea because I was wearing a brown, pink, and white outfit.

Abacus Blue managed to calm me enough to get me inside and make me hot chocolate (pro-tip hot chocolate is great after panic attacks) and explained to me that sometimes the void transforms the magic and trauma people have. For example, her body was made of shadows because it’s how the void dealt with the curse placed upon her. My curse of sorts was my guilt and from now on those who break the rules die. Luckily the members of The Lost are undead and therefor don’t permanently die, so I don’t feel as bad about my magic killing them.

Copper's Tail

Copper IRL

Gekko was milling around the Keep when he heard a soft meow and the roar of a ferocious beast. Gekko being the protector of tiny small creatures, especially cats, runs off in the direction of the sounds. When he arrives he finds the small kitten battered and broken. In a rage, he slays the evil cat hurting beast and brings the kitten back to the keep.

Nea's Trial of the Mieli for The Lost (Non-combat heralding trial)

On September 5th, 2020 Nea passed their Trial of the Mieli and became an Apprentice of The Lost in one really confusing night and highly suspicious night...

When I was a Thrall of the lost, I was wandering around The Keep while my brain and body were separated. I survive the process and became a full member of The Lost. Below is my non-com trail that represents that journey.

The skills below represent what a good herald needs to possess to be of value to their Realm and The Lost:

1. Herald field battles

2. Check weapons

3. Herald tournaments

4. Direct and communicate efficiently with other heralds.

5. Explain scenarios to the fighters

6. Know the rules of Belegarth

  • know specific rules to the Thrall’s home field as well

7. Effectively communicate rules to the fighters.

The three tasks a Thrall needs to prove proficiency in heralding:

1. Run weapons check

  • A Thrall can either talk to the Head Herald and run the full weapons check at the beginning of the month or run it for an event
  • This task demonstrates skills 2, 4, 6, and 7.

2. Run a tournament

  • A Thrall can either help plan and run a tournament for a practice day or an event.
  • This task demonstrates skills 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.

3. Run the field

  • A Thrall can either run the practice field for the day or a scenario battle at an event.
  • This task demonstrates skills 1, 3, 5, 6, and 7.
