Overview

Nimloth the Fair and her stars

In a time where the strength and unity of Numenor was waning, four of her people saw need for change. Angelus Phoenix, Matthias, Horus, and Shrike realized that their realm had grown scarce of Knights to train new warriors and indifferent to service by non-combatants. Where strong units had once been present to inspire new fighters, Heidoran, the Uruk-hai, the Army, and Dark Guard's numbers dwindled on Numenor's field.

Seeing the state of their realm, these four chose to guide the new Belegrim as best they could and held a camp solely for Numenoreans at Oktoberfest. The founders quickly discovered the new fighters only wished to fight by their side even after traveling to other camps. Since these four had no unit of their own, it was then the Dunedain were formed. Unfortunately, in the grueling process of creating a new unit Horus decided to pursue another road, though he still pledged his aid to the Dunedain when requested. So, the four became three.

Those three debated the needs of Numenor for long hours, hoping the Dunedain might fill a gap for honoring non-combatants, service, leadership, and combat skills of fighters not on the knight's path. They hoped to rekindle pride in the name of Numenor. Being the oldest and most experienced of the three, Angelus Phoenix (a squire at the time) was appointed to lead as the Dunedain's first chieftain.

Heraldry

The Dunedain's colors are officially brown and green, although black is permitted for armor, pants, and other less-visible clothing. The unit symbol is Nimloth the Fair also known as the "White Tree of Numenor" with seven stars over its boughs. The center star is the 8-pointed Star of Numenor, which was chosen to show dedication to the Dunedain's home realm. The symbol may be different colors depending on the rank and status of the Ranger wearing it. White denotes a new member, while silver marks a Ranger of two or more years experience. Gold stars are reserved for one of a Commander rank or higher, while the gold tree may only be worn by Officers.
