Lore: After the battle with Manus, Artorias with the help of Sif and the Cleansing Shield Artorias managed to create a fragment of himself, one to continue to carry his will, this was Ash, a cursed undead that had only a small amount of Artorias' strength and power, but with the same will, to fight the abyss and to carry on the "Oath of the Protector", the oath Artorias took so many years ago as one of Gwynn's knights. Ash with this memory chose to rebrand himself with the Dark Sign, to remember the Oath, "With No Honor, Nothing Has Been Achieved", to remember the 3 creeds of the Abysswalker, "To protect those who cannot protect themselves from the abyss", "To wield his blade not for himself, but for his comrades", "To live and die with honor". Ash knew what he had to do as Lordran was falling to the abyss, he rose from his "grave" and traveled the lands. Going from land to land Ash found many different people, those who protected a mysterious stag, those who protected a dilapidated fortress with a wellspring, lost souls, and many others. After many battles Ash could not wield his blade the same as Artorias did, this started to cause him to lose hope and begin to go mad, and beginning to go Hollow, causing him to go berserk for many days and many nights, ruining his honor, and ruining the Oath and creeds his original took. Thankfully he was saved, saved by one of the people he fought previously, a master of the blade, this caused him to see clearly again, and was able to see the one who had stopped him from going Hollow, one of the people who protected the mysterious stag. Ash was able to narrowly avoid breaking his Oath and creeds, allowing him to learn why he was lacking and see it clearly, gaining the insight of the "Black Sun", he was able to see that there were other fragments, other fragments of Artorias' power that he had to collect to regain his original strength. This reinvigorated Ash, making him stand once more with a new mission, to find these lost fragments. This was a mission he could not take alone, and with his regained senses was able to request the help of those he had battled before, gaining new insight and traveling down a new path.
