Humble Beginnings

Her parents were relatively plain folk, for all she knew. Shawnomer, her father, was born in December, in III 2,999. In his life he lived in Edoras as a soldier, later fighting in the War of the Ring. Her mother, Tamaron was born in April, in III 3,005. She lived In the city of Minas Tirith, working in her father’s trading company. They met each other after the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, when her mother was one of the people tending to the soldiers’ wounds. They quickly fell in love and decided to start a new life together. They used the next months to gather their belongings, and to say goodbye to their families, after which they set out west. Near the end of III 3,019 they came to the town of Bree, Where they built their home and married.

On the day of July 14th, in the third year of the fourth age, Thaliothwen was born in the town of Bree. Her name meant, “daughter of the dauntless flower” and she was the joy of her home. Her father, who now worked as a hunter, would take her into the woods to show her the surrounding wilderness. And her mother would often take her to see the people in the town including those in the Inn of the Prancing Pony. Her mother worked there as a waitress and would often bring Thali in to have people tell her stories. And when she got old enough, she began working at the inn herself. As a young adult she would often wander the city of Bree and the surrounding areas by herself, feeling a sense of restlessness and a want for more. She would remedy her wanderlust by listening to the stories of the many travelers that would come through Bree and the Prancing Pony. She would watch the firelight dance on their faces as they retold their tellings of daring tales of grandeur and harrowing escapes from danger, but it was never quite enough.

It was when she was 20 years old that the Rangers of Ithilien passed through the town. Thali was immediately captivated by the group of adventurers. They came into the Inn one evening and the environment of the room immediately shifted to one of merriment and joy. The Rangers had brought an air of comradery and welcome into the inn and Thali was captivated by each one of them. As the evening grew old the Rangers left and invited anyone that wished to follow them to their camp. Thali followed the small crowd as they built their fire and began to settle in for the night.

As the stars passed overhead one of the Rangers spotted Thali as she lingered near the edge of the firelight. The man introduced himself as Faelindir, and he invited her to join them by the glowing circle. As she sat down, she asked them about their story. She wanted to know all about how they came to Bree, who they all were, the history of their group. She wanted to know everything. They told tales of their battles, stories of their comrades, legends of their people and every word that they spoke, Thali was enraptured by. The camp was abuzz with people laughing and joking with each other, telling tales of mischief and merriment. It was then that Thali realized that, at this moment, she felt truly happy. Any feelings of anxiety or unease hadn’t even occurred to her, and her feelings of restlessness had seemingly burned away with the firelight. The party continued long into the night. As the next day began the Rangers continued on their way, thanking the people of Bree for their hospitality, and Thali was filled with a restlessness like never before. It was then that she decided that she needed to travel beyond the town that she had spent her whole life in. She was of course sad to leave her family and the people that had known her since birth, but she had a need in her heart, and her parents understood her need to leave. Her family spent the next month preparing her for travel, gathering enough food, clothes, and other supplies for her to make it to her next destination. And then Thaliothwen set out on her own.

The Travels Begin

She began making her way south via the The Green Way, eventually making her way to the ruins of Tharbad. It was there that she found a small band of workers that were beginning work on restoring the ruins. After a couple days she began traveling down the North-South Road. Once she made it to the Gap of Rohan she made a short trip north to Isengard, where the ents now made their home. After listening to their long tails she made her way back down to her father’s old home, Edoras, and eventually made her way to Minas Tirith. At this time it had been several months since she had seen the Rangers of Ithilien. Everywhere that she had been so far she had asked anyone she could if they had heard anything about the traveling band, but with no luck. She had hoped that with Minas Tirith being much closer to where the Rangers normally were that she would be able to find more information there. She spent almost a month going from inn to inn looking for information, all the while performing and learning more about the War of the Ring and other histories of the city. Until one day she was told about the old ranger hideout of Henneth Annûn. She made her preparations and once again set out by herself. As she was nearing the location, she found herself suddenly surrounded by a group of cloaked figures with bows trained on her. They asked her who she was, and when she said her name one of the archers lowered his bow and told the rest to do the same. It was Faelindir, and he had recognized her from Bree. He asked Thali what had made her come so far, and so she told him about her restlessness and her want of adventure and travel. He listened to her as she told him how much she had admired the Rangers when they had traveled through her town, and how she wanted to travel with them. Faelindir nodded, thinking to himself. After a moment he turned to one of his companions who had also been listening to Thali’s tale. The man introduced himself as Berenor, the captain of the Ranger’s white company. He told Thali that he was impressed by her determination to find them and offered her a small braid, representing her new friendship with the company of Rangers. After which she joined them in their travels as a friend with the goal of joining their ranks when she proved herself through trials. In the twenty fourth year of the fourth age she had become an entrant of the company and was nearing the end of her trials. The Rangers made their way to the mines of Moria for a mission in which Thali would go through her final task to become an official member of the Rangers. She worked hard through the entire event until the final day, when she surpassed her final foe and her trials were over. After the mission was over the Ranger’s held an event where Thali became an official member of the company, and chose the new name of Thalionorwen, “daughter of the dauntless fire”.
