Master Oroku Norinaga is one of the founding members of the Dread Gate Mercenary Alliance (DGMA 2000 Inc.) and currently serves on the DGMA High Council. A grey river foxtaur he was born to foxtaurian nobility on the island of Odo His mother died when he was very young from fever leaving Oroku to be raised by his father, a powerful warrior and Daimyo of the Norinaga Clan. As the only heir Oroku was taught the full Norinaga Family fighting system and was in training to take the clan and it's holdings over when he reached his 20th year.
When is father failed to return from battle 17 year old Oroku's grief became overwhelming and he left his village for the quiet serenity of the deep mountain forests. There he trained in swordsmanship and martial arts, trying to quiet the demons in his soul. During this dark time Oroku's only companion was the brown highland foxtaur known as Mitsu. Mitsu was the daughter of a high ranking merchant on the coast and had left home after she was forced into an arranged marriage. They spent many hours deep in conversation and long walks as Oroku struggled to find away to fulfill his destiny within his family clan and deal with the death of his only parent. After three years of almost complete isolation Oroku decided to return and claim his place as head of the Norinaga Clan.
Upon returning to Norinaga Fortress he found that his uncle Hamato had been initiated as leader. Because of his gnoll blood Oroku was offered the chance to challenge his uncle. Rather then fight for the position of daimyo, Oroku ceded his succesorship and returned to the forest, whereupon he learned that Mitsu was to have kits. Oroku had found his destiny at last. One day the very pregnant Mitsu tripped and stumbled into the path of a visiting Daimyo in the village square. Enraged at this affront to his honor the visitor reached out to strike Mitsu but lost his hand to Oroku's blade. He clumsily attempted to draw on Oroku with his remaining appendage but was cut down instantly. Oroku had no choice but to return to the woods a hunted fugitive. His survival and escape training served him well as he hid from the patrols that searched for him. He soon found himself running out of hiding space and knew he had to leave Odo. He returned to Mitsu only once, where he held his son for the first and only time. Then it was on to a ship owned by Mitsu's father for ports unknown.
After traveling for many years and bearing the marks of many battles, cultures and beliefs Oroku found himself in the great forests of Stygia. It did not take him long to get drawn into the constant battle between the towns people of Hell's Gate and the mighty Orc tribe that inhabited the area beyond the Dread Gate. Eventually Oroku would rise to a leadership position within the Dread Gate Mercenary Alliance and found his own unit, The Shadow Clan. He solidified his position by ranking up in the Mountain Mercenaries reaching Grey Wolf at Chaos Wars XV. Known to be a brash tactician verging occasionally on suicidal Oroku can be found at the front of the pack engaging in close range archery and wielding twin blades including his personal weapon, Morning Star.
In Stygia Oroku has found a small measure of peace and stability in a place he now calls home. He keeps an impressive tree house on the outskirts of Hell's Gate and is active in the Gladiator School located there. But the desire to return to his homeland, his family, and real peace has never left him. Until then he works at a price and keeps death as his constant companion.
