When is father failed to return from battle 17 year old Oroku's grief became overwhelming and he left his village for the quiet serenity of the deep mountain forests. There he trained in swordsmanship and martial arts, trying to quiet the demons in his soul. During this dark time Oroku's only companion was the brown highland foxtaur known as Mitsu. Mitsu was the daughter of a high ranking merchant on the coast and had left home after she was forced into an arranged marriage. They spent many hours deep in conversation and long walks as Oroku struggled to find away to fulfill his destiny within his family clan and deal with the death of his only parent. After three years of almost complete isolation Oroku decided to return and claim his place as head of the Norinaga Clan.

Oroku had no choice but to return to the woods a hunted fugitive. His survival and escape training served him well as he hid from the patrols that searched for him. He soon found himself running out of hiding space and knew he had to leave Odo. He returned to Mitsu only once, where he held his son for the first and only time. Then it was on to a ship owned by Mitsu's father for ports unknown.

After traveling for many years and bearing the marks of many battles, cultures and beliefs Oroku found himself in the great forests of Stygia. It did not take him long to get drawn into the constant battle between the towns people of Hell's Gate and the mighty Orc tribe that inhabited the area beyond the Dread Gate. Eventually Oroku would rise to a leadership position within the Dread Gate Mercenary Alliance and found his own unit, The Shadow Clan. Known to be a brash tactician verging occasionally on suicidal Oroku can be found at the front of the pack wielding twin blades including his personal weapon, Morning Star.
