In battlegames, a healer is a person who can remove hits from a combatant. They may also remove special effects from a player. Some may even be able to repair equipment and resurrect dead combatants. Healers are not defined in the Book of War, and they are not common in Belegarth battlegames.

Titles

Healers are never referred to as medics. Medics are called for legitimate medical emergencies. But healers do have several titles to be called by, based on flavor and gender. The following list of titles is ordered alphabetically.

  • Apothecary
  • Bishop
  • Cardinal
  • Cleric
  • Doctor
  • Healer
  • Herbalist
  • Kahuna
  • Lich
  • Necromancer
  • Pope
  • Priest
  • Priestess
  • Shaman

Common Abilities

Healing Poem/Incant
A poem, incantation, or rap must be completely recited without falter in order to heal a combatant. In Dagorhir, a healing poem must be no less than 180 syllables long and it restores health and equipment completely.
Laying On Of Hands
The target area must continuously be touched by the healer's palms to be healed. Usually accompanied by an incantation, regenerative count, or at least shouting the word "heal". In less strict play, laying on of feet is also acceptable.
Regenerative Count
The healer counts a certain number of seconds, then a hit is restored to a target area. An example would be vocalizing, "Three-re-gen, two-re-gen, one-re-gen, heal!" with each #-regen taking one second to say.
Resurrection (rez)
Seldomly, healers are allowed to heal dead combatants, such that they stop being dead. Non-necromantic healers can usually only rez their teammates, and only before the teammates clear the field, if they can rez at all.
Regents
Sometimes healers are required to expend limited regents to use their healing abilities. This can be shown through dumping a pouch of birdseed, among other ways.
